Lights - Computer animated Light Display
Where are the lights?
We've heard that question a lot
lately and a lot of people have been driving by the house very
slowly. The fact is, earlier this year we decided not to put
up the display for 2009 for various personal reasons. In
mid-November the bug bit me after a trip to Alaska where just about
everyone has lights up and on. The problem was by mid-November
I should have been halfway through installing the lights, I was way
too far behind. Fortunately for me a good friend of mine from
LaSalle Lighting offered up the use of a boom truck and in one
weekend I managed to do three weeks worth of work - I wrapped our
mesquite trees with nearly 16,000 lights. I still have a
problem, I previously promised much of my time in late November to
another cause - an amazing float for the Palm Springs Festival of
Lights parade (I highly suggest you attend the parade!). I
have spent many hours helping with the float and as a result very
few additional lights have been installed for our display.
So, as of right now, IndioLights
for the 2009 Christmas season may or may not get lit. If we do
manage to put a few solid days of work into the display and get the
lights up we'll probably light them on the weekend of December 12th.
Better late than never right? If we do that we'll keep them
lit through January 3rd so we'll still have three weeks of lights.
In that time we will try to put together some animated shows, no
promises though.
Shameless plug - as I mentioned above, the use of a boom
truck greatly decreased the time and energy required to wrap
our mesquite trees with lights. With that said, if you
have any electrical projects you need done please contact
LaSalle Lighting Services, Gary and his guys are a top notch
crew and are sure to do an outstanding job. Tell them
you heard about them on IndioLights.com.

Other Projects:
The Palm Springs Festival of
Lights parade was held on Saturday, December 6th, 2008. This
year marked the first year I was involved with a float in the
parade. Odd, some would say, that someone with a hobby like
mine wouldn't have already helped create a float, but indeed this
was the first year.
I, along with many great parents
and students, helped work on the Xavier College Prep High School "Rockin'
Around the Christmas Tree" float. The school received the
coveted "Sweepstakes Award" and entertained 80,000 people on the
parade route. Looking back at the experience I have to say it
was amazing to see the creative abilities people have, from coming
up with the concept, building it, painting it, wiring it, lighting
it up, making the costumes, coordinating the entire effort - it
takes a great group of people to pull this off, Xavier is fortunate
to have these people.
Here are a couple pictures of the
final product. This float was put together in about 10 hours
the night prior to the parade. We had 5500 lights on the truck
alone, and another 12,000 on the float. Total power draw
was around 55 amps supplied by two 5500 watt generators.

In
memory of Jerry...

On December 9,
2007 we lost our good friend Jerry Kozitka. I had known Jerry for six
years through work and over the years he became a close friend.
Jerry would always give me a hard time about the amount of time I
spent putting this display up, he couldn't understand why I'd spend
all this time and money on Christmas lights. But when the lights
went on he was a loyal visitor and usually came to see the lights
several times a year. We were lucky to have Jerry stop by the
display just a day
before he left to see his family in Minnesota. He never
returned from that trip. Although Jerry is in a better place
now he will be missed greatly by those of us who knew him.
This display is
dedicated to the memory of Jerry Kozitka.
